Introduction
This poem was one I wrote in 2018, unfortunately, I couldn't find the actual date I wrote it. And I am a little ashamed to publish it on my blog, because it really is not all that great :).
I made a few tweaks here and there to at least make it presentable. But I wanted to keep it as close to the original as possible.
I'm not entirely sure what sparked this poetry idea. In the back of my mind, it sounds like a twisted reflection on my own future of leaving my current home and studying abroad. It's a poem about leaving behind a place, with hard feelings. It is about leaving the sufferings of your past behind. It's about leaving the people closest to you behind. It is about the futility of leaving a broken past behind without reconciliation. You will get no where. You may leave the world behind, but your only escape from your past is in death.
And it is melancholy, and it is tragic, and it is morbid. But I hope it inspires you to make right, to forgive, or maybe even confess and repent. Otherwise you will be stuck with the pain.

"Relinquo Mundum" (An Elegy to you)
You try to leave the world,
At least, the world in which I live.
Distance is never painful,
It never really is.
The heart, in its sacrifice
Endures the hardest loss.
You remember what you forget,
At least, what you hated to hold.
Those memories stuck,
And you provide the glue.
The hardships drive you cold
So give it up.
You tried to leave the world,
At least, you seemed to in your mind.
Somewhat faithful,
Not at all fulfilling:
The dire need for love drives most of humankind
But it simply drove you away.
You remembered what you forgot,
At least, that was your biggest flaw.
You strived for perfection,
And arrived at misdemeanour.
The memories you created simply claw
Pulling you back, as you push forward:
Ultimately, getting nowhere at all.

Hey Ayns. I don't think I knew the word 'elegy.' Now I know a new word. Thanks.
